LGU Tacurong, suportado ang ‘Rotary Walk for Peace’

LUNGSOD NG TACURONG, Sultan Kudarat, Hunyo 28 (PIA) -- Hinihikayat ni City Mayor Lina Montilla ang mga opisyal at kawani ng lokal na pamahalaan na sumama sa ‘Rotary Walk for Peace’ sa Hulyo 1 ng madaling-araw. 

Isang sulat ang ipinadala ni Mayor Montilla sa lahat ng tanggapan sa ilalim ng lokal na pamahalaan at nakasaad dito ang paghikayat niya sa lahat ng kawani na makilahok sa naturang aktibidad. 

Ang walk for peace ay isang fund-raising activity na inorganisa ng Rotary Club of Tacurong sa tulong ng 601st Infantry Brigade ng Philippine Army. Ang naturang aktibidad ay isasagawa ng lahat ng kasapi ng Rotary Clubs sa Mindanao na sakop ng Rotary District 3870. Layunin nila na makahikayat ng limang libong walkers at sa lungsod ng Tacurong, limangdaan ang tinatayang sasali. 

Sa araw ng ‘Walk for Peace’, magtitipon ang lahat ng kalahok sa city hall ground kung saan magkakaroon ng maikling programa bago magsimula ang aktibidad. Sasalubungin ng tugtog ng 6th Infantry Division ng Philippine Army ang mga sasali. Magkakaroon din ng ilang minutong warm-up exercises bago simulan ang paglalakad. 

Magsisimula naman ang paglalakad alas 5 y medya ng madaling-araw. Magsisimula ang mga maglalakad sa harap ng city hall papunta sa round ball o rotunda. Pagdating sa rotunda, kakanan ang mga maglalakad at didiretso sa National Highway. Pagdating sa harap ng bagong gusali ng STI, babalik ang mga maglalakad sa rotunda at liliko pabalik sa city hall ground kung saan magkakaroon ng paggawad ng parangal at maikling programa. 

Magbibigay ng kanilang mensahe ang sponsoring groups mula sa Rotary at 601st brigade ganun din si Mayor Montilla. 

Samantala, dahil isang fund-raiser ang walk for peace, may babayarang registration fee ang bawat sasali. Ang pondong malilikom ng Rotary Club ay mapupunta sa mga proyektong pinaglalaanan nito kasama na ang patuloy na pagbibigay nito ng livelihood assistance sa mga beneficiaries ng Rotary-Gawad Kalinga Village sa Purok Tanawing Pag-asa, Barangay Griño, Tacurong City. City locals respond to call for a greener country

TACURONG CITY—A thousand locals got involved in an early morning planting activity on Philippine Arbor Day, June 25, 2012.

 Barangay units and employees of different sectors simultaneously planted trees in both rural and urban areas of the city.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office distributed 5, 700 seedlings to 19 barangays. Trees were planted strategically to reduce risks of flood and landslides.

Meanwhile, officials, employees, and members of the Local Government Unit, PNP, Task Force Talakudong, DOTC, LTO, BJMP, SK Water District, NFA, REACT, Rotary Club of Tacurong, Girl Scouts, DepEd, BFP, SSS, DTI, Knights of Columbus, NSO, LTO, and DENR planted 1,995 seedlings of white lawaan to replenish the hills of DECELA in Brgy. New Passi.

DECELA or Development Center for Ecology and Leadership Enhancement is a 5-hectare forest area with spring waters and cool, fresh air. Mayor Lina O. Montilla admitted that the area has high potential for local tourism and professional activities. However, she stressed that “careful planning should be done before doing further developments to conserve the area.”

“What we will do here today is for ourselves and for the younger generations. Let us take this seriously. The environment is everyone’s duty,” the Mayor firmly said.

The tree planting activity is in support of the administration’s National Greening Program or NGP. The program covers all provinces, cities and municipalities nationwide with an aim to plant 1.5 million trees from 2011 to 2016. Through NGP, the government hopes to ‘pursue sustainable development for poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.’

“Let us remember that we are not only doing this for compliance. We are obliged to protect nature’s beauty through tree planting and urban greening. This is to secure our future, our city, and our children,” said Mr. Alberto P. Sero Jr., City Local Government and Operations Officer.

To encourage crowd of 300, Councilor Psyche Sucaldito, head of the Committee for Environment, cited an Eastern philosophy: To live a fulfilled life, one must bear a child, write a book, and plant a tree.

On Philippine Arbor Day, a thousand Tacurongnons surely went home fulfilled, and hopefully with a realization that the environment is a lifetime responsibility. (Jezereel Louise C. Billano)

LGU Tacurong, namigay ng libreng bags at school supplies sa 2,600 Grade I pupils

(Tagalog News: Tacurong City - June 25, 2012) Kasabay sa pagbukas ng pasukan sa taong ito, namigay ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Tacurong ng libreng bags at school supplies sa lahat ng mga mag-aaral na nasa unang baitang sa lahat ng pampublikong paaralan sa lungsod.

Sa dalawampu’t-apat na pampublikong paaralan sa lungsod, umaabot sa 2, 600 na Grade I pupils ang nakatanggap ng gamit pang-eskwela na ipinamudmod nitong linggo.

Pinangunahan ni City Mayor Lina Montilla ang pamimigay ng school supplies kasama ni Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education Chairperson Ariel dela Cruz at iba pang kasapi ng SP. Kasama din nila ang mga kinatawan ng City Schools Division sa pamumuno ni Superintendent Gildo Mosqueda.

Ang isa sa mga pinakahuling paaralan na pinuntahan noong nakaraang Byernes para sa bag distribution ay ang Tacurong Pilot Elementary School na siyang may pinakamaraming Grade I pupils sa bilang na 585.

Ayon kay Mr. Joseph Pilotos, principal ng Tacurong Pilot Elementary School, inaasahan na nila ang pamimigay ng libreng mga gamit pang-eskwela mula sa lokal na pamahalaan at hindi naman umano sila binibigo taun-taon.

“Masaya kami at maraming tulong ang natatanggap ng public schools mula sa lokal na pamahalaan at ang mga libreng bags at school supplies para sa aming mga mag-aaral na taunang ibinibigay ay isa lamang sa mga tulong na ito”, ani Pilotos.

Sinabi naman ni Mayor Lina Montilla na isang simpleng paraan lamang ang ginagawang ito ng city government para matulungan ang mga magulang ng mga mag-aaral sa Grade I na matustusan ang pangangailangan nila sa paaralan. ( Allan S. Freno)

LGU-Tacurong contends for Gawad KALASAG 2012

(June 21, 2012) LGU-Tacurong is one of the regional contenders for the Best Local Disaster Risk Reduction Council (LDRRMC) in Gawad KALASAG 2012-Component City Category.

Tacurong City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and the Tacurong City Responsive Assistance and Coordinated Emergency Search and Rescue (TRACER) were evaluated and validated by the regional selection and evaluation committee on June 20, 2012. TRACER received separate nomination for the Government Emergency Response Management-Basic Search and Rescue Category.

Gawad KALASAG for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Assistance is given yearly to individuals, local government units, and non-government agencies. KALASAG stands for KAlamidad at sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan.

According to CDRRMC Focal Person Mrs. Eufemia Robles, Tacurong has preventive tactics and activities for both natural and man-made calamities. “But we are also equipped to respond promptly if these things will happen,” she added. Tacurong’s major hazards are flood, lightning/tornado, and fire. Least likely, but also included, are bomb and grenade explosions.   

LGU-Tacurong involves everyone in disaster prevention and mitigation. “We focus on capability building of our rescue team and of other sectors such as business, academe, and NGOs,” confirms Councilor Rodrigo Jamorabon.

Various trainings have been conducted in disaster-prone barangays to educate leaders and residents; schools have undergone drills and orientations; government and private organizations are briefed of their roles; early warning signals are available; and TRACER is equipped with necessary skills and facilities.

The City Government boasts of the multi-skilled TRACER team. “TRACER volunteers can conduct search and rescue and can also identify bombs. They serve as crowd control personnel during attacks. They are trained army auxiliaries,” said TRACER Asst. Team Leader Amante Alcaide.

Activities for climate change adaptation and environmental protection, such as Limpyo Kalog, are regularly conducted. “Limpyo Kalog is done quarterly by students and residents to clean canals. This facilitates good drainage to prevent floods,” said Councilor Psyche Sucaldito. Proper solid waste management is also enforced in the city.

To maintain peace and order, Tacurong taps civilian volunteers. “The army and 1600 civilian volunteers are well coordinated and dependable. They are in strategic locations 24/7,” said Colonel Dece Yabo, TF Talakudong Commander.

Evaluators lauded Tacurong for its efforts. “You have already developed a strong sense of social responsibility. I can see how everyone works together,” said Olivia Sudaria, Regional Director of the Philippine Information Agency XII. Other evaluators include Assistant Regional Director James Cabrido of the Office of Civil Defence XII, DSWD Social Welfare Officer Edmund Corder, and James Cabrido of Philippine Red Cross General Santos.

Mayor Lina O. Montilla expects that the evaluation will help Tacurong determine its extent of readiness. “We must continue our vigilance for Tacurong’s security and safety. We are willing to learn more ways to improve our strategies,” she added.

Gawad Kalasag 2012 regional results will be announced by end of June. Regional awardees will then be nominated to the national level.

In 2005, Tacurong was awarded 1^st runner up for the Best City Disaster Coordinating Council (Component City Category)-National Level. In 2006, it bagged the 2^nd runner up for the same category. (Jezereel Louise C. Billano)

Sinimulan ang pamimigay ng mga gamit noong June 19 at inaasahang sa loob ng linggong ito ay matatanggap na ng lahat ng Grade I pupils ang naturang school supplies.

COMELEC resolution suspends voters’ registration

(June 20, 2012) The Office of the City Election Officer in Tacurong City requests qualified voters to register until June 23, 2012 because COMELEC is about to suspend the conduct of voters’ registration.

The suspension is pursuant to COMELEC Resolution 9443 entitled Suspension of the System of Continuing Registration of Voters and Validation of Registration Records promulgated on June 8, 2012.

For the City of Tacurong, the satellite registration of voters scheduled in July for barangays San Antonio, D’Ledesma, San Rafael, Tina, Kalandagan, New Carmen, Calean, New Isabela, San Emmanuel, and San Pablo scheduled is also cancelled until further notice. For the walk-in registrants however, they can go to the office of the COMELEC until June 23 and have their registrations processed.

Resolution 9443 suspends registration in non-ARMM areas until July 31, 2012. According to the Resolution, the suspension is deemed necessary to pave way for the conduct of General Registration of Voters in ARMM provinces Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi in July 9-18, 2012.

COMELEC personnel and equipment in non-ARMM areas will be utilized and deployed to the mentioned provinces ‘to effect an honest and credible registration of voters and attain the mandate to establish a clean, complete, permanent, and updated list of voters in the ARMM region’.

“Our workforce in Tacurong is always ready to support any effort to make the whole system clean. Tacurongnons will have to wait but this will all be worthwhile,” said City Election Officer Reynaldo Gagno.

A City Election staff said that they would likely resume the registration of voters, including the satellite registration in barangays, in August.

Last April, COMELEC-Tacurong has already conducted satellite registration in barangays New Passi, Rajah Muda, Lancheta, Baras, Upper Katungal, EJC Montilla, New Lagao, and Buenaflor. (Jezereel Louise C. Billano) 

Barangay Councilors’ League holds annual assembly

(June 19, 2012) The Barangay Councilors’ League of the Philippines(BCLP) Tacurong City Chapter held their 3^rd General Assembly at Mountain Lake Eco Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato on June 5-7, 2012 with their rallying call: Transparency and Accountability..Our Best Practice.

The General Assembly tackled issues relevant in the performance of barangay kagawads’ duties and functions in their respective barangays. This is in support of the present administration’s commitment to provide the Filipinos with honest service and governance. Among the topics discussed during the orientation are are RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, salient features of RA 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991, RA 10121 or the Disaster Risk Reduction Mgt Act, and the Barangay Governance Performance Measurement System (BGPMS). The orientation also included lectures that helped participants enhance their technical writing skills.

The constitution and bylaws of the BCLP, including members’ benefits and the organization’s financial reports, were also discussed.

Resource speakers were: City Councilor Psyche Sucaldito, Chairperson on Environment and Social Services Committee; City Local Government Officer Alberto P. Sero Jr.; and retired CLGOO of Tacurong, Lennie Arzagon. Mayor Lina O. Montilla, Councilors Joseph George L. Lechonsito, Rodrigo P. LGU, DILG train barangay officials on disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation

Barangay officials of all the twenty barangays of the City of Tacurong attended the two-Day Roll Out Training on Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction & Management and Climate Change Adaptation conducted by the city government and the Department of Interior and Local Government for the city on June 14 and 15 at Tacurong Pilot gym.

Said barangay officials were among the 132 participants to the training that included school principals of the City Schools Division. School administrators were involved in the training considering that schools are used as evacuation centers in times of calamities.

Tacurong Search and Rescue Team, PNP and the Bureau of Fire personnel, served as trainers for the two-day activity. DILG XII First District Officer Engr. Samuel Camaganacan was present to oversee the conduct of the activity.

Before the training proper, City Social Welfare and Development Officer and CDRRMC Focal Person Eufemia Robles presented to the participants the Mindanao Declaration on Disaster Reduction Priorities. City Local Government Operations Officer Alberto Sero, Jr. also explained the rationale as to the integration of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management to Climate Change Adaptation.

On the course of the training, participants were taught with basic rope course, inputs on early warning system, evacuation center management, first aid/life-saving techniques, and simulation on emergency response among others.

Tacurong City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) was the first to conduct said training in the province of Sultan Kudarat as confirmed by DILG Provincial Director Abdulgani Tekoken who was also present during the activity.

“I admire the leadership of Mayor Lina Montilla because just a month after DILG XII’s conduct of the orientation on mainstreaming disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation for LGUs, Tacurong was quick to respond to the call of the regional office to conduct roll out trainings to all barangays”, Director Tetoken said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Montilla said that the training was just what the barangays need right now since the CDRRMC had already conducted a seminar on how to use their allotted budgets for calamities last year.

Recruitment team joins ‘City Hall sa Barangay’

(June 15, 2012) SAN ANTONIO, TACURONG CITY—Reynald Solatorio, 18, graduate of a two-year hotel and restaurant management course, did not expect that his first job interview will be in their barangay.

“Nagulat ako pagdating ko sa bahay. Sinabi ng kapatid ko na may hiring sa barangay gym, kaya nagmadali akong pumunta,” said Reynald in his shirt, pants, and slippers. Unlike in other formal job interviews, his clothes did not matter. Indeed, it was a pleasant surprise.

Reynald is the first applicant accommodated by KCC Marbel’s local recruitment team that joined the City Hall sa Barangay San Antonio on June 15, 2012. The team collaborated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Sultan Kudarat and the Tacurong Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

“Nakita namin na mas maganda kung sa barangays kami pupunta kasi mas mapapadali ang proseso para sa aplikante. May mga applicants kasi na hindi nakakapunta sa Koronadal para sa interview dahil mahal ang pamasahe. Nahihirapan din ang iba kasi pabalik-balik sila para sa interview,” said Sheila Ann Diaz, KCC Mall of Marbel HR representative.

This activity enables applicants to undergo initial and final interviews, even examinations if the venue permits. Applicants are also required to fill out DOLE’s form for the National Manpower Skills Registration System.  

All in all, there were 8 applicants interviewed for the day. Ms. Diaz and her team expect to entertain more job seekers in the next barangays.

Reynald lauded the activity saying, “maganda ito dahil willing silang tumulong sa mga out-of-school youth. Maraming new graduates ngayon na nahihirapan. Excited na akong magtrabaho.”  

Meanwhile, Mayor Lina O. Montilla said that “this kind of collaboration widens the scope of the ‘City Hall sa Barangay’. DTI and LGU open nominations for outstanding entreps

(June 15, 2012) TACURONG CITY—The City Government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are to give 3 major awards in celebration of the Tacurong Business Week on July 30 to August 3, 2012. The Provincial SMED Council through DTI-Provincial Office is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Market Vendor, Outstanding Entrepreneur, and Outstanding Businessman.

The Tacurong Business Week is themed Sustaining Unlimited Livelihood Opportunities by Nestling the Growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, also known as SULONG Tacurong.

Nominees for the awards must be involved in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in manufacturing, agri-business, services, and creative industries.

For the enterprise category, nominees must have an asset size of NOT more than P60 million. Nominees for the business category, on the other hand, must have an asset size of AT LEAST P60 million at the time of nomination. Stall owners who are members of the Tacurong Market Vendors Association (TaMaVA) may be nominated for the outstanding market vendor award.

All nominees must: 1) be duly registered to appropriate government agencies as prescribed by the law; 2) be 100% owned and capitalized by Filipino citizens, either single proprietorship or partnership; 3) be owned by Filipinos, with at least 60% of the capital or outstanding stocks, if a juridical entity; 4) have operated for at least 3 years; and 5) have no derogatory record. A nominee must not be a branch, subsidiary or division of a large-scale enterprise.

Selected nominees for the 3 awards will be adjudged based on entrepreneurial spirit, financial performance, strategic direction, community/global impact, innovation, and personal integrity.

“We started giving these awards in 2011 to recognize the efforts and contributions of our business sector to Tacurong’s progress. This is one way to make it known that it’s good doing business here,” said Bishop David E. Salazar, LGU Executive Assistant for External Affairs.

Government and private agencies may nominate their MSME beneficiaries however, self-nominations are also welcome. Trophies and medallions will be awarded to winners on August 1, 2012.

Mayor’s challenge marked 114th Independence Day

June 12, 2012—Tacurongnons did not bother the early morning drizzles to be part of the commemoration of the 114^th anniversary of the proclamation of the country’s independence.

The City Government held a program with the theme, Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan. The program was filled with patriotic rites and performances ably conducted and offered by members of both public and private sectors: LGU officials, Tacurong Dance Sport Association, Talakudong Choir, TPES, NDTC, Notre Dame Siena College, STI, Rotary Club, and St. John Learning Center. National line agencies and other organizations were also in attendance to witness the program.

The activity was not only highlighted by the flag raising rites and nationalistic performances, but also by Mayor Lina O. Montilla’s message to Tacurongnons.

As Philippine flags proudly waved in the city hall grounds, the Mayor fearlessly challenged public servants to be transparent and sincere. “Hindi madali ang maging kawani ng gobyerno [ngunit] ang matuwid na landas ay hindi mahirap tahakin kung malinis ang ating mga hangarin. Ang kawalan ng katapatan sa sarili at sa gobyerno ay kawalan ng pananagutan sa sarili, sa pinaglilingkuran, at sa mamamayan,” she firmly said.

She also aired that it is high time for government employees to live up to the true meaning of being a public servant: “Simulan natin sa ating mga sarili na nanunungkulan sa gobyerno, na sa ating pamamalagi sa ating mga opisina ay nagagampanan natin ang ating tungkulin at sa paglabas ng mga taong ating pinagsilbihan ay nakangiti sila.”

The Mayor also saluted heroes of then and now: the historic figures, honest public officials, OFWs, and even the Filipinos who have stayed in the country to serve. “Higit sa lahat, sa ating mga taga Tacurong na piniling manatili at magtrabaho sa ating mahal na lungsod, tayo rin ay mga bayani,” she added.

More so, Tacurongnons were highly regarded as active agents of peace: “Sa ilang beses na gustong guluhin ang ating tahimik na lungsod, patuloy pa rin tayong bumabangon. Patuloy nating itaguyod ang kapayapaan at kalayaan.”  

Indeed, freedom comes with responsibilities. Amidst the rain, Tacurongnons cheered with pride. It was a serious challenge, and they are ready to respond. (Jezereel C. Billano)

  

Tacurong welders receive assistance package from LGU, TESDA

(June 12, 2012) If one has to consider giving skills training and livelihood assistance a complete package, then it was what the city government of Tacurong and Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) extended to the group of welders of Barangay San Emmanuel.

On June 8, members of the San Emmanuel SEA-K Welders Association opened a new shop that paved way for the opening of livelihood opportunities for them. Composed of more than twenty welders all residing in said barangay, they organized themselves right after they availed of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) training conducted by Local Government Unit (LGU)-Tacurong in coordination with TESDA.

After receiving the training, most of the welders underwent TESDA assessment for National Certificate 2 or NC2. All of those who took the assessment passed.

The office of the Community Training and Employment Coordinator (CTEC) under the Social Welfare and Development Office of the LGU also worked on a proposal that would give the welders livelihood project. CTE Coordinator Josephine Ubaldo submitted the proposal to Mayor Lina Montilla who subsequently approved for the allocation of P30 thousand.

Part of the assistance was used to construct a welding shop in barangay San Emmanuel and part was used to purchase a welding machine and other tools. The city government turned over said welding equipment during the opening of the shop on June 8.

During the inauguration ceremony of the newly-opened shop, Mayor Montilla said that she is expecting the success of its operation. And upon knowing also that ten member-welders have not yet taken the TESDA assessment, she pledged to personally shoulder their assessment fees.

Meanwhile, TESDA Provincial Director Rey Bernal, also in attendance to the event, announced that TESDA will give another set of welding machine and other tools to the welders of San Emmanuel. The welding tools are already in his office and about to be released.

In April, Mayor Montilla announced that she will allocate P1 Million for skills trainings and livelihood projects. On Friday, the mayor said that said fund is already included in the Supplemental Budget for the next quarter.

City Councilor Rodrigo Jamorabon, chairperson of Committee on Livelihood, said that more skills trainings are already in the pipeline for Tacurong residents because of the additional funds the mayor is funneling for the purpose. ‘City Hall sa Barangay’ returns to Griño

(June 11, 2012) Brgy. Grino was the take-off point of the ‘City Hall sa Barangay’ in February 2011. It has been more than a year, but the hype is still on.

Almost 1,500 Grino residents queued for free government aids in their barangay gym on June 8, 2012. The festival of services was attended mostly by the elderly, students, mothers, and farmers.

“Pinakamalaking need ang medical at yung rehistro din. Karamihan sa Muslim brothers natin walang birth certificate pero lahat naman ng serbisyo dito ngayon, kailangan natin,” admits Brgy. Captain Romeo H. Panes.

The top 3 most availed services were: medical services, dental services, and the free haircut. The three services accommodated 680, 205, and 145 clients, respectively.

Among those who availed free medical assistance were Jhonalyn Garcia and her whole family. “Medyo matagal ko nang tinitiis ang sakit sa breast ko. Ngayon na nacheck ako at may pain reliever, napanatag ako. Malaking tulong itong ginawa dito lalo at kapos ang mga tao ngayon. Nacheck up din pati anak ko, tatay at kapatid ko,” she said.

Like Jhonalyn, students of the nearby Virginia F. Grino National High School were very thankful.  Karen Shane Liquillo, 16, and her classmates all lined up for free dental services. “Ginakulbaan ko kay first time ko magpadentista, ” says Karen. Despite her nervousness, she thanked the LGU and aired a request: tani indi na ni mag-untat.

Farmers also went home happy as 12 cattles/carabaos, 16 goats, and 9 hogs were dewormed and were given vitamins.

 The City Hall sa Barangay project addresses Tacurongnons’ needs by bringing all offices of the local government unit into the communities. LGU-Tacurong works on new educational assistance program

(June 8, 2012) An ordinance for the establishment and institutionalization of the Iskolar ng Lungsod ng Tacurong or the ILT Program is scheduled for second reading of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on June 13, 2012.

ILT is a scholarship grant purposely made for the poor yet deserving who hopes to get tertiary or vocational education. LGU-Tacurong aims to launch the program in academic year 2012-2013.

 As indicated in the proposal, applicants must be residents of Tacurong with good moral character, and whose parents’ annual gross income is not over 120,000.00. An applicant must not be over 22 years old and must have an average grade of 80%, without a failing grade in all his/her high school subjects. The proposed program will not be accommodating those who have already availed other scholarships. No two members of a family shall be granted with ILT benefits at the same time.

Even at its proposal stage, Mayor Lina Montilla fully supports the program by allotting an annual budget of 500,000. The said budget is planned to be increased in the succeeding years of its implementation.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod will deliberate and finalize ILT qualifications, requirements, budget, selection process, and other program components in the second and third readings.

“We are very hopeful that this program will be approved and implemented soon. The LGU will closely coordinate with DepEd and other academic institutions to strengthen the implementation of this program,” declares Councilor Ariel Ferdinand M. dela Cruz, Chair of the Committee on Education.
