31 teams from Far Eastern University, and local table tennis clubs in Kidapawan, General Santos, Kabacan, Isulan and Polomolok battled for the championship title of the 3rd Talakudong Table Tennis Tournament- Open Category, December 22-23, 2012, Tacurong City Gymnasium.
All in all, 93 individual participants registered for the open tournament while 55 players enlisted for elementary and secondary categories. “This number implies a positive response in the promotion of sports in the city,” said Mr. Alex Parcon, coordinator of the Tacurong City Table Tennis Club (TCTTC).
Tournament champions were: Kidapawan Table Tennis Club-End of the World Team (Open Category-Men); Arlene Opillo of SUKELCO (Inter-agency Category); Christian Jay Villanueva (Secondary-Boys); Kimberly Ortouste (Secondary-Girls); Jansiem Quimba (Elementary-Boys); and Cheska Jocson (Elementary-Girls). Winners were awarded with cash prizes and medals.
“It has been a pleasure for the City of Tacurong to host events such as this..because we are able to see the potentials of our players. Thank you for giving us your best in each game,” Mayor Lina Montilla said.
TCTTC, in cooperation with the city government, aims to discover and develop a new breed of competitive athletes in the locality, hence the annual table tennis tournament. The activity also helps the Club maintain strong bonds with fellow enthusiasts in neighboring areas.
